From an idea to a community effort
Bring Back 6th started as a conversation around concerns along Olson Memorial Highway. Today, the movement has grown to a full fledged community effort. This community organizing effort forced decision makers to listen and take steps towards a better future on Olson. The Minnesota Department of Transportation now has a website dedicated to the project and a street reconstruction is planned for 2027. Bring Back 6th could not happen without the support of community members like you.
Imagine 6th Avenue North & Mobile Museum
Back in May, we hosted a community celebration and reflection centered on Bring Back 6th called Imagine 6th Avenue North. We brought together over 300 community members to witness the history of 6th Avenue North and give a glimpse of what a restored community could look like. While the event lasted one day, the Bring Back 6th mobile museum continued to move around the city. So far, it has been at every Open Streets Minneapolis event and other events on the Northside. Be sure to check it out at our final Open Streets Minneapolis event of the season, Minnehaha on October 1st.
It's time for action
Vision Zero, MnDOT, and other transportation agencies have been aware of safety concerns on Olson Memorial Highway for quite sometime. Community members have made it clear: something must be done to address the harms. The current safety improvements are temporary and don't address community demands. Instead of continuing to delay progress, we're calling on relevant agencies to fully commit to the changes that the community wants to see. MnDOT is currently accepting feedback about Olson Memorial Highway. We encourage you to complete the survey and let them know that Phase 1 improvements can't wait!
