Seven exciting stops at Open Streets West Broadway 2019

Join us this Saturday September 14th for Open Streets West Broadway! Open Streets Minneapolis events are free events that temporarily close major thoroughfares to car traffic, opening them up for people walking, biking, rolling, and playing. Check out the Open Streets West Broadway Facebook page or the event webpage for more details. Here are the things that I am most excited to see at Open Streets West Broadway!

1. Juxtaposition Arts


Location: Juxtaposition Arts Skate-Able Art Plaza (corner of West Broadway Avenue and North Emerson Avenue)

U.S. Bank recently gifted JXTA a $50,000 Community Possible grant to help fund the inaugural programming season of their new skate-able art plaza. To celebrate this gift, JXTA is hosting a day of art-making, activities, and acknowledgements during Open Streets West Broadway! Stop by for skateboarding demonstrations, performances, refreshments, JXTA retail for sale, art-making, a game booth, and a meet-and-greet with Timberwolves mascot Crunch.

2. Project for Pride in Living


Location: W Broadway Ave between N Knox Ave North and N James Ave

Project for Pride in Living (PPL) builds the hope, assets, and self-reliance of individuals and families who have lower incomes. They do this by providing transformative affordable housing and career readiness services. Their WIOA Adult Program, located at 800 W Broadway Avenue, provides employment and training services to eligible adults 18 and over who are looking to gain skills and employment in numerous fields. PPL's Neighborhood Engagement Committee also has a Northside Neighborhood team that focuses on building and cultivating relationships on Minneapolis' Northside. Stop by their tent to learn more about their programming!

3. North Market


Location: W Broadway Ave between Dupont Ave and Bryant Ave N

North Market is a full-service grocery store, a center for wellness services and a community gathering place, all under one roof. Want to try yoga or meditation? Interested in learning to cook? Check out their selection of pay-what-you-can classes held in the Community Room. Stop by to learn about their amazing programming and foods!

4. Sierra Club North Star Chapter

The Sierra Club North Star Chapter partnered with organizers and activists in North Minneapolis as apart of the Co-Creation Eco Harbor Coalition, a group whose mission is to ensure an equitable outcome to the Upper Harbor Terminal decision. Come hang out at their booth and talk with Sierra Club volunteer leaders about our priorities like clean energy and transportation. Activities for all ages!

5. Twin Cities R!SE


Location: W Broadway Ave between N Knox Ave North and N James Ave

Twin Cities R!SE is a training organization that works with individuals to obtain career success. Participants join for a free 8-week training program, where they learn skills that are important for long term success, gain support of a career coach, learn new adaptive workplace skills, discover strengths and passion in the work place, and gain assistance in finding a full-time career with benefits in an area they passionate about. Stroll by their booth to learn more!

6. MN350


Location: W Broadway Ave and Irving Ave N

MN350 works to inspire Minnesotans to take collective action on climate, to transition from fossil fuels to a just and sustainable renewable energy economy. As part of their 100% Campaign, MN350 Action is working with over 40 environmental organizations, community groups and unions across the state to make Minnesota the next 100% clean energy state. 7. Honey's Soul Food & Bakery LLC


Location: W Broadway Ave and Bryant Ave N

Time for a treat! Honey’s Soul Food and Bakery goal is to conjure delicious feelings of nostalgia, while bringing culturally accurate soul food to Minneapolis. Products are made with love and precision in order to give you a fresh homemade taste. Stop by to try them!
