Volunteers Power Our Streets Minneapolis!
The work of Our Streets Minneapolis is possible because of volunteers like you. Here’s how you can make an impact on the future of transportation equity in our city:
Bring Back 6th
Our Streets Minneapolis and Harrison Neighborhood Association are partnering to focus on transforming Olson Memorial Highway in North Minneapolis to put people and the community first, and bringing back walkability, inviting green spaces, and a thriving cultural corridor that provides economic opportunity and amenities that the former Sixth Ave North provided to the community. By canvassing with the team, you can help us engage the community on important transportation issues that impact them.
Restore the Whittier Lyndale Bikeway Timeline
We are calling on the City of Minneapolis to complete the Whittier Lyndale Bikeway and restore the 2023 timeline for the 1st Ave S reconstruction. Both projects were previously delayed, meaning that people continue to have no easy route from South Minneapolis to downtown. Our organizers will be canvassing on January 14th from 4-6PM at Whittier Park. We welcome volunteers to join us for as long as they'd like to.
Rethinking I-94 is a once in a lifetime opportunity to reimagine the I-94 corridor and to put the needs of people and the planet ahead of automobile traffic. We envision a corridor with reduced emissions, cleaner air, reconnected communities and abundant transportation options for people walking, rolling, biking and taking transit. By canvassing with the team, you can help us engage the community on important transportation issues that impact them.
Open Streets Minneapolis
Join in opening the streets to thousands of people! Each year, communities across the city gather to experience a day on their street without cars. By volunteering at an Open Streets event, you can help us create a welcoming and engaging environment for visitors, organizations, and businesses across the city. With a variety of opportunities, this is a great way to learn about the work that Our Streets does and share our mission with others.
Volunteer for Lowry, Lyndale, and other County Owned Streets
By volunteering, you can help get the attention of Hennepin County Commissioners, the Public Works department, and other county decision makers who have the authority to make positive changes on these streets. You can help make this project happen on a timeline that works for the people.
Join the Streets for People Work Group
This volunteer work group is a combination of the Downtown Bikeways and Pedestrian Work Groups. This change enables volunteers to discuss street space holistically and more efficiently advocate for streets that deliver safety, justice, and equity regardless of a person’s identity and lived experience.
