At Our Streets Minneapolis we firmly believe traffic enforcement is not a good strategy to make streets better places to bike, walk, and roll.
We know that this sets us apart from many local and national advocates who believe law enforcement is key to making streets spaces for everyone. Here in Minneapolis, the idea that we need more police enforcing traffic laws is popular in conversations about blocked bike lanes and the City of Minneapolis Vision Zero Action Plan.

What is the Federal Reserve parking garage?
The Federal Reserve parking garage is a proposed parking garage that, if built, will have 800 parking spaces and be five stories tall. The parking garage is planned to be built in the North Loop in downtown Minneapolis near the Mississippi River front.

Last month we decided to meet in July even though many attendees would be out of town for the July 4th holiday. We decided that we didn’t want to lose our recent momentum - and we didn’t! We have lots of exciting projects that we are working on, some of which we’ll share at a later date.
We started the meeting with introductions, welcoming one new member, and welcoming back one member from a previous era of the Downtown Bikeways work group! We shared some of our favorite biking related memories as an ice breaker.Read more
Open Streets Minneapolis
Open Streets Lyndale had a record turnout at 58k people, with 45k being the previous record. The Our Streets Minneapolis booth was busy and collected over 100 postcards for winter maintenance. The next Open Streets Minneapolis event is Open Streets Lake + Minnehaha on Sunday, July 21st.
Summer is back and with more people out biking, walking and rolling, it’s a good time to turn to the conversation around bike infrastructure on Park Avenue and Portland Avenue. The Downtown Bikeways Work Group gathered and established some activities that they will be completing in the upcoming month.
There were several new folks at the meeting this month, so the beginning of the meeting was spent with introductions, understanding why new folks joined in as well as reviewing the Downtown Bikeways Work Group’s mission of advocating for protected bikeways on LaSalle/1st Ave and 9th/10th Streets.Read more
This Thursday the City of Minneapolis is hosting a hearing where folks can provide feedback on the Capital Long-Range Improvement Committee (CLIC) recommendations for how the City should spend capital improvement funding from 2020 - 2024.

This April, the Pedestrian Work Group (PWG) met up once again at the Central Library to discuss all things walking and rolling and to start planning engagement efforts for Our Streets. Several new volunteers shared a lot of knowledge and expertise from careers in transit and car-free lives. Thank you so much!Read more
The Downtown Bikeways work group has been talking to people that live, work, go to school, eat, or recreate along the corridor that connects downtown with Loring Heights, Stevens Square, Whittier, and neighborhoods to the south.
One person that we spoke with is Joelle B., who teaches at MPS’ Emerson Spanish Immersion School. Emerson is located along the Downtown-Whittier corridor at 15th Street and LaSalle Ave S.
