Success! Community Ride on 26th & 28th Streets

Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition rode with some enthusiastic partners from Cycles for Change, CLUESMujeres En Accion Y Poder, and Minneapolis residents on the chilly morning of October 11th.

Our spirits and bodies warmed up with lots of jokes and a nice pedal down 26th and 28th Streets, with a stop at CLUES for an energizing breakfast of coffee, bananas, and bagels!  It was a nice surprise to have food and a hot drink waiting for us.

We stopped along the route to talk about the dangerous current configuration of 26th and 28th, and talked about what we would like to see changed.  Without getting into specifics of "road diets" and "intersection treatments," we identified that we wanted the faded lanes to be repainted, we would love to see a bike lane so there is safer east-west option between Franklin and the Greenway, and that the speed of cars was too fast.

Our group ended at the Midtown Farmers Market, where we got a brief history of the market, and some tokens to buy our weekly vegetables!  The sun was shining and everyone was smiling.  Thanks to our partners, and especially to William, our cheerful ride leader, for inviting the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and me along for the morning ride!
