Seven exciting stops at Open Streets Northeast 2019

Join us this Sunday August 4th for Open Streets Northeast! Open Streets Minneapolis events are free events that temporarily close major thoroughfares to car traffic, opening them up for people walking, biking, rolling, and playing. Check out the Open Streets Northeast Facebook page or the event webpage for more details. Here are the things that I am most excited to see at Open Streets Northeast!

1. Iceformance


Location: Central Ave NE and 18th ½ Ave NE

Iceformance was created to share the joy and passion for ice skating, even on the sidewalks in the summer! Founded in May 2018, they create professional skating performances of various lengths and themes using real and synthetic ice surfaces. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to watch Iceformance in the middle of summer! 

2. Nautical Bowls 


Location: Central Ave NE between 20th Ave NE and 19th Ave NE

Nautical Bowls Food Truck will be selling their Superfood Smoothie Bowls to replenish and fuel your body so that you can enjoy Open Streets Northeast! Nautical Bowls opened May 26th, 2018 and have big plans to grow & expand! Their food truck launched April 2019 and they plan to open 2-3 stores in 2020.

3. Sticker Gallery 


Location: Monroe St NE between Broadway St NE and 13th Ave NE

Start gathering your stickers now because, Sticker Gallery is your stop to swap, create and get free stickers. Additionally, they will provide the best and brightest street chalk for all to use to create artful displays in NE Minneapolis, yay!

4. One Reason Dance Studio


Location: Central Ave NE between 26th Ave NE and NE Lowry Ave

One Reason Dance Studio is back hosting Latin Dancing in the streets with various performances throughout the day! Stop by, get your groove on, and learn about classes for everyone (Salsa, Bachata, Zumba, and more), every night of the week!

5. Metro Blooms


Location: Central Ave NE between 26th Ave NE and NE Lowry Ave

Metro Blooms works with communities to build resilient landscapes, promote and celebrate gardening, to beautify our communities and help heal and protect our environment. Stop by for a tour guide to the clean water and pollinator projects near Central and Lowry.

6. DJ Jim Frick & Friends present: DANCE TUNNEL


Location: Monroe St NE between 18th Ave NE and 17th Ave NE

Longtime NE resident DJ Jim Frick (brain behind such parties like DOG POUND and FRIED) puts together an all-star squad showcasing some of Minneapolis’ most talented DJs. Come dance your way through the DANCE TUNNEL with sounds from Slamdunkapher (PURR), Elysium Alps, Jim Frick & More! Music starts 11am and ends at 5pm!

7. Broadway Street Repaving


Location: Monroe St NE and Broadway St NE

Intersection of Broadway St NE and Monroe St NE

Hennepin County, in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, is repaving Broadway Street Northeast from Marshall Street (County Road 23) to Stinson Boulevard (County Road 27). Visit with local community partners like City and County staff and the St. Anthony East Neighborhood Association to learn about the changes between Marshall and Stinson, view the design layout and learn more timeline information about this corridor.
