9-year-old riding 150 miles at 90% of his Fundraising Goal

Isaiah rides Open Streets at mile 95 (of 105 in his 2011 fundraising ride).

Isaiah is riding 150 miles to get to Open Streets.  He's doing that a a fundraiser for the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition (who puts on Open Streets).  As of my latest update, Isaiah has pledges for about $900 of the $1,000 he's aiming for.  I'm trusting that you and our other readers will help put him over the top by pledging through this webform.

And I'm personally asking people I know to pitch in.  Like my parents - they're from Austin, MN, but they come up to ride around Minneapolis with me a couple times a year.  They want a bike-welcoming Minneapolis to rie around, and also to keep me safe.

In case you're just meeting Isaiah now, Isaiah asked for help planning his route on the blog several weeks ago, and gave us a route and fundraising update a couple weeks ago.

Isaiah loved Open Streets last year, so he's front-loading his miles this year to make it back in time to enjoy the festivities.  While he's there, he'll tell us how far he rode, how much money he raised, and his ride adventures.

Come hear his report, meet him and give him a big, "Thank You!" at 3:00 p.m. at Tiger Sushi (just north of the Greenway bridge). Or join earlier thank you at 1:00 p.m. at Twin Town (34th & Lyndale).

Isaiah and his dad head out tomorrow, Thursday, June 7th and will finish up at Open Streets.  If you can, please make a donation at this webpage - whatever you can afford - to Isaiah to put him over the top.  It only takes another $.67 a mile to get him to his goal!  (Or four $25 donations.)

Open Streets Minneapolis

Following the inaugural Open Streets Minneapolis event in June of 2011, Minneapolis residents will have another opportunity to explore and enjoy their neighborhood streets without the presence of motorized traffic on June 10th, 2012. Open Streets events (based on the Ciclovía from Bogotá, Colombia) bring together families and neighbors to bike, walk, socialize, play and shop in their communities in a safe, car-free environment.

This year—through lots of hard work and coordination—Open Streets Minneapolis will be two hours longer!  Enjoy your completely transformed neighborhood street for six hours!  The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition covers all costs for police, barricades, and permits to ensure that Open Streets events are free to all participants and require no registration.

Lyndale Avenue South has already begun to show indications that Open Streets is near.

The complementary events are about finalized.

Please follow the Open Streets Minneapolis Facebook Page and Twitter Feed for all the latest updates, and we can't wait to see you this Sunday!
