Bike Month Kicks Off: Saturday is Women and Gender Non-Conforming Day

Bike Month is about to kick off! We are ready to roll out with a full month of themed days, rides, events, encouragement, and other surprises. This is the first time that Minneapolis will see a Bike Month instead of a Bike Week, and we promise it will be unforgettable.

The themed days are:

  • Saturday, May 6th: Women and Gender Non-Conforming Day

  • Wednesday, May 10th: Bike to School Day

  • Friday, May 19th: Twin Cities Bike to Work Day

  • Saturday, May 27th: Family Bike to Parks Day

We’re kicking off this fun-filled month with Women and Gender Non-Conforming Day (WGNC), and do we have a line-up for you! These events are for WGNC identifying folks only (except for the Pastry Ride), and WGNC’s will be the focus for this day. Please honor WGNC folks by respecting these spaces. We’ve got a wide variety of events and something for everyone: a Pastry Ride leaving from Perennial Cycle, a Fix-It clinic, Bike Camping 101 with Grease Rag. Prizes and treats! Bring a friend, meet a friend!

Pastry Ride with Perennial Cycle (9am-11am, Meet-up at Perennial Cycle):

In which we ride bikes and eat pastries, presented by Perennial Cycle, every Saturday morning during 30 Days of Biking is extending an extra week for the first Saturday BIKE MONTH! Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and Perennial Cycle are partnering to throw one heck of a pastry ride in honor of WGNC Day.

We will meet up at Perennial Cycle and roll out for a nice, easy, muppet-paced ride. We'll head to a surprise location, a pastry shop that is Women-Trans-Femme owned and end the ride with a fix a flat tutorial! This ride is focused on WGNC's, but is family friendly so partners and children are welcome. Read more here!

Bike Camping 101 hosted by Grease Rag (2:15-4pm) at 514 Lowry Ave NE:

This event is for WTF & GNC* folks ONLY. Beginner-friendly! Hosted and organized by Grease Rag volunteer Julia Winkles. Julia uses she/her/hers pronouns, and has oodles of bike camping and touring experience! Julia will focus on budget-friendly tips and gear, and how to just get out there and DO it!

This skill share is meant to pump you up and provide some space to swap tips about what works and doesn't work for YOU. Maybe you have a lot of camping experience, but no biking experience? You've ridden a bike a bunch, but have never camped? You want to get into both this summer? This should get you rolling! Join us at Uptown Plumbing, Heating and Cooling at 514 Lowry Ave NE! Read more here!

Fix-It With Shae at Venture North (5-6pm):

Shae will lead a basic bike fixit workshop. Make your bike happy by addressing some small adjustments and learn how to fix a flat. This workshop is FREE, open to and welcoming to women & gender non-conforming folks ONLY, and will be real laid back. Snacks and prizes! Read more here!

Hope that you will join us for one or all of these events! We can’t wait to kick off Minneapolis Bike Month with WGNC Day!
