Update on University Ave/4th St Protected Bikeway Project

Curious about where this project stands? Although no physical progress has been made, the stakeholder group continues to meet and move the project forward. With snow now on the ground, we wait in anticipation for the completion of the City's traffic study to have a clear direction of our next steps.

The University and 4th project stakeholders met in the beginning of November to discuss the results of the surveys and postcards which were completed to get feedback from the community about the project. Of the 427 responses, 204 prefer a 2-way protected bike lane on University alone and 223 prefer both a 1-way protected bike lane on University and a 1-way protected bike lane on 4th. Majority of respondents said that should either of these protected bikeways be installed, they would feel much safer riding in the area and would be likely to utilize the corridor more for their commute.

The stakeholders will meet again once the results of the City's traffic study are compiled in December. The online survey will remain open until Friday, December 2 and can be accessed using this link.
