6 Exciting Things at Open Streets Minneapolis on Lyndale

For the past 11 years, Our Streets Minneapolis & the City of Minneapolis have been opening up streets across Minneapolis for people to explore. Open Streets Minneapolis is a space for communities to come together and enjoy streets without cars.

This Sunday, October 10th we’re opening up Lyndale Ave S for you to explore! Open Streets Minneapolis on Lyndale is our longest route - just about 4 miles of car-free fun! Each year is an exciting, unique event full of vendors, entertainment, and more. Here are 6 things to look forward to at Lyndale:

Artisan Market
Location: 48th to 50th ST

#BuyLocal. Over 30 local artists and makers will be selling their goods at the Artisan Market. Stop by to browse home decor, self care items, clothing - you name it.

Live Entertainment
Various locations throughout the event

From music to comedy shows, there are plenty of live entertainers to visit along the route. Check out live painting from @froriginals and Sufi Productions. Or listen to some tunes from Crosstown Community Band, Better Mistakes, Mikey’s Basement, and more. There is something for everyone at Lyndale.

Move Your Body!
Various locations

Get your body moving with pop-up dance, yoga, and fitness activities throughout the route. Lyndale really becomes a dance party between W 29th St & Lake St thanks to The Arena and DJ Juice. You don’t need to sign up or bring any equipment - just bring yourself and some friends!

Preserved Art from Across Minneapolis
Location: W Lake St to W 31st St

Last year during the uprising surrounding the murder of George Floyd, hundreds of art pieces bloomed on boarded-up areas across the city. A collection of these protest arts will be displayed at the West Broadway event thanks to Save the Boards. Kenda Zellner-Smith founded Save the Boards to protect these meaningful pieces and keep them within the community. Since the start, over a thousand pieces have been saved from being thrown away or auctioned off. This is the same type of exhibit that was at West Broadway, but with different boards featured.

Get your COVID-19 & Flu Vaccines
Location: W 26th St

Have you gotten your COVID-19 vaccination yet? If not, stop by the vaccination site at this event: The COVID-19 Community Mobile Vaccination Bus offered by the Minnesota Department of Health, located near West 26th St. Getting vaccinated helps protect yourself and your community from COVID-19. Healthcare professionals will be on site to answer any questions you may have.

There will also be Flu Shots offered by Hennepin Healthcare. Fall is here, so take advantage of the opportunity and get your flu shot this weekend.

A Car-Free Lyndale

Aside from designated crossing spaces, there will be no car traffic on Lyndale for the duration of the event. It is a once-a-year opportunity to easily experience Lyndale while biking, walking, and rolling. There are over 120 vendors and programmers at the event, and even more nearby businesses to explore.
