Now Hiring: Open Streets Intern

The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition seeks a full-time Open Streets Intern to work with outreach, programming, planning and day-of activities for the Open Streets 2017 season. The work will be focused on supporting the Open Streets and Bike Month team. We’re seeking an excited, passionate, enthusiastic, flexible, and hard-working individual to join our team!

The position is full time and paid (40 hours a week) and will report to Emily Stumpf, the Volunteer and Event Coordinator in addition with working closely with the rest of the team. The ideal candidate would start at the end of April to support Minneapolis Bike Month and work through October 1st. Start and end times are flexible.

Responsibilities:

  • Outreach to businesses, neighbors, and community orgs in preparation of Open Streets

  • Recruit day-of Open Streets volunteers through phone and in-person engagement

  • Organize, train and manage crews of volunteers for outreach & engagement as possible

  • Communications, social media, and event preparation

  • If applicant is able to start at the end of April, help with Minneapolis Bike Month.

  • Assist with Open Streets Mpls event programming or mapping logistics

  • Work with the Event Planning Committee as the primary lead to plan summertime events

Qualifications:

  • Enjoys meeting and talking with many people; is positive and outgoing

  • Able to be on time and flexible to work some evenings and weekends each month

  • Utilizes prompt, open, and inclusive communication skills

  • We are a hard-working staff, and are seeking another hard-working individual to represent the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and Open Streets Minneapolis. 
  • Has adequate understanding of communications through social media, mass mailings, and other promotional materials.

  • Interested in biking, walking, community building, advocacy, transportation, health, or the environment

  • Bilingual in English -and- Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Oromo -or- Amharic (preferred)

  • Has a High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
